Born 1971 in Lüneburg (Germany), currently living in Hamburg, Mirko Reisser has become known as an artist worldwide especially for his large size graffiti works in the 3D-style, in which he depicts his writer name DAIM in serial repetition and within processes of construction and deconstruction. The book Mirko Reisser (DAIM) 1989 – 2014 is the most extensive publication of the artist’s œuvre so far. In 1989 he realized his first works in the public space – in 2014 the artist looks back on his artistic career that spans 25 years. This book gives an all-embracing insight in the work of the artist for the first time, from the beginnings of his career that started with illegal works on the street, covering the time of his studies of fine arts in Switzerland up to the present, in which his works can mostly be seen in large scale museum presentations.
This book shows the development of the works of the artist over a course of 25 years and also all important periods of his œuvre in more than 350 colour images, of which some have never been published before. Murals, canvases, sculptures, editions, graphics and the later tapings can be seen. The images furthermore grant a look behind the scenes and show production processes of some of the artworks.

Johannes Stahl, art critic and curator, takes a look back at the historic roots of graffiti, in whose tradition the works of the artist certainly stand, but from whose liberation they also fight. By also explaining the technique of the artist, he makes it possible to look into the digital components that are involved in the process of realization of the works.
Belinda Grace Gardner, known from numerous essays about topics of contemporary art in relevant publications, approaches the work of the artist from an art historical point of view. She examines signature as content and builds bridges to protagonists of conceptual art such as On Kawara with his date paintings and Hanne Darboven, she also draws conclusions about the connection of the works to concrete poetry.
Arne Rautenberg, freelance author, artist and cultural journalist, not only discusses the works in his interview with Mirko Reisser, but also completes the text-contributions in this publication by giving an insight into the person that can be found behind them.
The foreword of the book is written by Rik Reinking, art collector, dealer and curator, that has been following Reissers career since its beginnings. In his text he illustrates the relationship between collector and artist.
About the authors:
Rik Reinking is an art collector, art dealer and curator. He was born in 1976 in Hamburg (Germany) and has been studying law and art history at the university of Hamburg since 1996. Initial starting points of the Reinking collection are artworks from the fifties and sixties from genres such as minimalism, Fluxus, conceptual art, Arte Povera and Informel. In addition to those works the collection includes young contemporary art especially from the Graffiti-/Street-Art movement from the artist-generations born after 1965. Within the scope of the initiative Germany – Land of ideas of the federal government the Reinking collection got appreciated as one of the most exciting collections of young contemporary art in Europe. As a curator and collector Rik Reinking realized exhibitions in the Weserburg Museum of Modern Art in Bremen, in the Ernst-Barlach-Museum in Hamburg, in the Kunsthalle zu Kiel, in the Villa Merkel in Esslingen, in the KunstCentret Silkeborg Bad in Denmark and in the Von der Heydt-Kunsthalle in Wuppertal.
Dr. Johannes Stahl was born 1958 in Gundersheim (Germany). He has been studying art history, German language and literature studies and urban development studies at the universities of Bonn and Marburg since 1978. He graduated with his dissertation about the topic Graffiti: Between everyday life and aesthetics. Since 1984 he works as an art critic and curator. Stahl has published numerous texts and books, many of them with a focus on Graffiti and Street Art or Kunst am Bau. In his function as a curator he realized among others exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf, the Städtische Museum Mühlheim/Ruhr, the Gemeentemuseum Helmond and at the Kunstverein in Wiesbaden, Heidelberg and Bonn. Stahl was teaching at the universities in Bonn and Halle as well as the Academy of Arts in Mainz and the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle.
Belinda Grace Gardner, M.A., was born in 1960 in Durham, North Carolina (USA). She studied literature and linguistics in Göttingen (Germany) and Chapel Hill, North Carolina (USA). Currently she is based in Hamburg (Germany). She has been publishing extensively since 1990 in numerous books and catalogues and as an arts editor, freelance art critic, and author for various newspapers, magazines, and radio stations in Germany and Switzerland, and as an independent curator (exhibitions include: True Romance – Allegories of Love from the Renaissance to the Present, Vienna/Munich/Kiel, 2007/2008; The Ear of Giacometti: (Post-)Surreal Art from Meret Oppenheim to Mariella Mosler, Hamburg, 2010/2011). Gardner currently works as a lecturer of art theory at the University of Fine Arts, Hamburg, and the Leuphana University Lüneburg.
Arne Rautenberg lives as a freelance author, artist and cultural journalist in Kiel (Germany). He was born there in 1967 and later completed his studies of art history, German literature studies and ethnology at the Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel. He writes essays, poems, audio pieces, short stories, novels and works for different feuilletons; the main sphere of his literary activity is lyricism. Since 2006 he lectures at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design. In 2013 he got awarded with the Liliencron-lectureship for poetics.
